We are currently looking for a multi-site location for our church. It is our first one. Would it be wiser to rent space in a nearby school (possibly in a neighborhood) or lease a front and center storefront location (right in the center of town)?
Nate,
Half of all multisite campuses start in a school because it is usually the lowest risk/lowest cost option. Schools only require portable church equipment to start and then monthly rent going forward. Schools are a great place to start because of the lower rent and start-up costs, but are only good for 1-3 years because of the wear & tear on the volunteers having to set up/tear down every week and they are typically not accessible through the week.
It is better to obtain, renovate and install equipment in an existing facility that can be utilized 24/7, but will be 3-4 times more expensive than starting in a school and therefore a higher risk up front.
We would be glad to have an exploratory conversation about your multisite questions and how we might be able to assist you in reaching the redemptive potential of your church.
Be fruitful and multiply!
